Unlike Versailles — which was altered and expanded over centuries — the interior of Vaux-le-Vicomte remains as close to its 1661 original as any great French château. The Grand Salon, the King’s Bedroom (prepared for Louis XIV but never used), and Le Brun’s painted ceilings are extraordinary. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for a thorough visit.
